Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Attorney Talia Gee, and Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer Judi Crowell gathered to recognize and thank Shenell Ford of Heart2Heartbeat Lactation & Wellness for her generous contributions to the newly created parental leave lactation room in Springfield City Hall.
Shenell Ford donated thoughtful items and brochures to support the breastfeeding and lactation needs of city employees. These resources aim to promote education, comfort, and privacy for nursing parents.
The lactation room was officially announced in May 2022 by Mayor Sarno, Attorney Talia Gee, HR Director Attorney William Mahoney, and PBRM Director Patrick Sullivan. It serves as a private space for city employees to manage parental and lactation needs during work hours.
Mayor Sarno stated:
“I want to thank Shenell Ford for supporting our efforts to provide a secure and comfortable space for
employees to care for their families. She continues to offer heartfelt support and education to families
throughout our community. I also thank Attorney Talia Gee for advocating for this need.”
He added:
“I look forward to working again with Shenell and Heart2Heartbeat Lactation and Wellness as we
kick off National Breastfeeding Awareness Month in August.”
Shenell Ford responded:
“I am grateful to Mayor Sarno and City Hall for not just raising awareness but taking real action
to support parents. I’m excited to be part of the ongoing efforts and look forward to National
Breastfeeding Awareness Month, including our annual flag raising and a series of community events.”
